Free bicycle

June 14th, 2010 at 11:47 am

My husband rescued a bicycle that a neighbour was throwing out. It's practically brand new. So I've taken over his old one, which looks like a girl's bike anyway. I had just been thinking about buying one. I haven't ridden a bike for 30 years, so I spent some time just coasting on it for short distances this weekend. Trying to get my balance back.
It feels exhilarating!

Talent Show

November 27th, 2009 at 02:19 am

I will be singing in the talent show at work on Dec 9. I think that is why they are keeping me at work ..... cheap talent Smile
I have a new boss now, who is in the U.S. Life promises to be interesting with virtual reporting.
Meanwhile I have decided to keep going with selling Avon. It is fun and I hope to gradually increase the number of customers.
BA, in case you are reading this, one of the top ten Avon sales people in my district is a man. Just a thought Smile
Thanks for the support and prayers, everyone.

BIG GIFT ideas wanted

November 21st, 2009 at 05:24 am

I would love some ideas on what to get my six year old DD for Xmas. She is our only child. She already has a kitchen centre and a Disney Princess vanity table.
I have gotten the small gifts already, e.g. books, kids jewelry, lip gloss, etc. I don't know what to get as her big gift. Any ideas?

Started selling Avon

November 16th, 2009 at 12:48 pm

A month ago I started selling Avon. I have 10 customers already. My goal is to get a minimum of 50. The average sale is around $25, so if I sell to 20 people every campaign, which is every two weeks, I would make 40% of $500, so $200. Making an extra $400/month with me as the boss is not too shabby.
The best thing is that this new activity and connecting with other women on a level I never have before, has helped me from going bonkers while waiting to hear about my work situation. My work level was told we have to wait until early Dec to find out who will be let go under the new structure.
Back to Avon, I plan to retire from the Rat Race in 10 years when I turn 55. Avon is one of the things I would like to continue doing post-retirement.
Meanwhile, I look forward to getting more training to learn how to help my customers with makeup and other beauty questions.

Got sidetracked

September 9th, 2009 at 03:18 am

Successfully decluttered on Monday ... just not my closet. I did DD's whole room - closet, all drawers, laundry - the works. I left the dreaded underwear/socks drawer for last, but got that done too.

She is so happy now. Everything is in it's place. Outgrown clothes are bagged to go to charity.

Maybe next weekend I'll tackle my closet. Groan.

Decluttering the closet

September 7th, 2009 at 07:40 pm

I'm finally going to tackle my clothes closet. Ironically, the clothes are organized. It is the stuff I have on the closet floor and the top shelf that needs organizing/throwing out. I have four big garbage bags and I plan to be ruthless.

DH and DD have gone out, so this is the best time to do it.

Wish me luck.

Wedding today ...

September 5th, 2009 at 12:18 pm

A bit of a spendy weekend - on Saturday a wedding gift plus money - but I'm glad of the dollar store for the wrapping paper, bow, and card. They don't look cheap. Last night I was asked to sing at the wedding, so I'm going to spend this morning preparing.

Sunday is an engagement ceremony (for another couple) during the regular service at our church so that won't cost anything. The couple are going to live in the UK while he studies.
We'll give them a nice gift when the wedding takes place.

Summer without studying

September 2nd, 2009 at 03:12 am

I wrote the biggest exam of my life mid-June and spent the first summer in years not studying (or feeling guilty about not studying).
Every weekend was full of some sort of fun activity for the family --- from weddings to barbeques.
There were some times of heavy spending, but that is being paid back now to the line of credit. It helps that less taxes are taken off the paycheque near the end of the year.
Now we are looking forward to the change of season.

Exam in two weeks

June 3rd, 2009 at 04:09 am

I've been studying hard and working hard, but in two weeks I'll be done with exams ... until next year.
I'll actually be able to enjoy my summer for once.
We'll finally have time to make our backyard a living space for our family. We'll get patio furniture, a swing for the kid, and maybe even a storage shed.
We also want to turn the other spare bedroom into a music room as both DH and I sing and play instruments. That just means emptying it out and finding a place to put the stuff currently in there.

Stretch Yoga

May 19th, 2009 at 05:24 am

I found my Stretch Yoga (title) DVD while looking for something else in a cupboard. No excuse now to keep from getting all bendy and limber.

Tues. Plan

May 12th, 2009 at 03:23 pm

- stairclimbing exercise
- study tax and foreign currency translation
- find yoga mat and start doing yoga again
- start log of things to take for work lunches (I failed to start logbook yesterday) - this will save me a lot of lunch money and will be healthier.

Sunday's plan

May 10th, 2009 at 11:51 am

- have similar breakfast as yesterday
- take snacks and lunch to class to save money: strawberries, low fat biscuits, cheese sandwiches, guava drink box (that has spent some time in the freezer) to keep everything else cool.
- walk 10 mins. between the subway and class. And take train route that requires me to change lines to get more walking done.
- read over the class material during break & lunch to make study time easier.
